Applications For Gauteng School Admissions Close Today

Thousands of school learners will begin their primary and high school journeys in 2023. If these learners live in Gauteng, it's important that parents submit school applications before Friday’s midnight deadline.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has called on parents to submit Grade 1 and Grade 8 school applications before the 19 August 2022 deadline. The department's online admissions system will close at midnight on Friday.

The GDE said improvements to their online admissions system made the process of submitting a school application easier. One update allowed parents to use their live location as an address and allow them to view schools in their feeder zone.

To increase the likelihood of the learner being accepted at a school closer to where they live, parents are encouraged to ensure that their preferred school choices are located within a school's feeder zone.

Parents are encouraged to upload all the required documentation when submitting a school application. However, if this is not possible they may hand-deliver certified copies of the required documents to the school where they applied.

The deadline for submitting required documentation is on 26 August 2022. Schools will verify these documents and provide parents with proof of receipt of documents and update applicant's document status on the system by 2 September 2022.

Application must be done online or at one of the GDE’s decentralised walk-in centres. These walk-in centres were established to ensure parents who don’t have access to the internet have a chance to submit a school placement application.

Parents who require assistance with their applications or have questions can contact the GDE call centre on 0800 000 789 or via WhatsApp on 060 891 0361. It's important to note that the office hours for the WhatsApp line are between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM on weekdays.

School placement offers will be sent to the cellphone number the parent/guardian registered with between 3 October 2022 and 30 November 2022.
