The Department of Home Affairs says it is currently experiencing interruptions on its live-capture system.
This disruption in service affected the processing and collection of smart ID cards and passports.
This isn't the first time though, modernised offices capable of processing these types of documents have experienced unstable connectivity in the past.
“Technicians are monitoring the system and are diagnosing the root cause of the problem with a view to solving it and preventing further outages,” the department said in a statement.
Other services related to birth, marriage and death certificates, along with the amendment of documents, are not affected by this glitch.
The department says it apologises to members of the public for the inconvenience caused and asked for patience while the system is being repaired.
