The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has officially opened the 2024 Online Admission Application period for the 2024 school year. The application period applies to learners who will be attending Grade 1 or Grade 8 during the 2024 school year.

Parents and guardians have less than a month to submit an admission application on behalf of their child. The GDE announced that the admission application period will close on 14 July 2023.

The Five Steps Steps To Follow When Submitting Gauteng School Applications

Step 1: Register Parent/Guardian details

Step 2: Add the Parent/Guardian’s address

Step 3: Register Learner's Details

Step 4: Apply to Schools

Step 5: Upload Documents

Parents can begin the admission application process for public schools in Gauteng on the GDE’s admissions website.

Log on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za and click on Register, to register parent details and learner details before you apply to a school

The GDE will also operate several Decentralised Walk-in Centres, which parents can visit to receive assistance with the submission of the admission application. These decentralised walk-in centres will operate between 8 AM and 4 PM.

Parents can apply to a maximum of 5 public schools in the province. They are encouraged to submit an admissions application to one school near their home. They can use the Home Option on the website to view the schools in the feeder zone.

Remember to use the Home option at least once to apply to schools with Feeder Zones that cover your home address.

The school's feeder zone is a geographical area from which a school accepts most of its learners. To increase the likelihood of the learner being placed at school in their community, parents ensure their preferred school choices are located within a school's feeder zone.

Several documents are required by the GDE for admission applications.

Documents required for Grade 1 applications:

Certified Copies of Documents are required within SEVEN (7) school days! Please upload documents on the System to ONE school OR deliver to all schools applied to.
