The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is calling on parents to submit Grade 1 and Grade 8 placement applications before the 19 August 2022 deadlines. This deadline is just one week away.

The GDE online admissions system received 595 991 placement applications in the first two weeks of the system being open. The system recorded 250 463 applications for Grade 1 while 345 456 applications were made for Grade 8 placement.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the system improvements made to the online admissions system allow for the processing of large volumes of applications at a time.

“The existence of this system has saved many parents a lot of time and resources required when applying for their children. In the past, parents needed to travel and wait in long queues at schools to apply. Now, with the Online Admissions System, parents merely use their smartphone or computer wherever they are to apply for their children in under 20 minutes” declared Lesufi.

Parents in the province must submit placement applications online on the GDE’s online admissions website at http://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za  or visit one of the province's district offices or decentralised walk-in centres to submit applications.

The decentralised walk-in centres will assist parents who do not have access to the internet which is needed to make an application.

The department is urging parents to upload all the required documentation onto the online admissions system when they submit placement applications. Alternatively, parents can submit certified copies of the required documents at the schools to which they applied.

Parents who require assistance with their applications or have questions can contact the GDE call centre on 0800 000 789 or via WhatsApp on 060 891 0361.
