The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has shared that its main objective is to provide social assistance to qualifying South Africans.
The national government agency has also confirmed that a total of 1 583 498 social grant applications were approved, representing an overachievement of 383 498.
To process these social grants, Sassa has its own processes in place to make sure that these grants are administered timeously.
In a report, Sassa said:
An average of 99.99% social grant payments were successfully processed on a monthly basis and paid into correct beneficiary accounts.
In the past few months, people have been complaining about the agency’s long and tiresome processes when it comes to grants.
To make sure that the service delivery improvement objective is being addressed, it is said that 1 706 158 of 1 740 896 of new applications were processed within 10 days.
According to Sassa, the improved turnaround time is attributed to the revised grant value chain. This follows the revision of business processes which have eliminated duplicated effort, resulting in reduced staff time per application.
Sassa has also confirmed that it has planned to increase social grants uptake by 1.2 million. It is important that these processes continue to be revised as the National Treasury has predicted that the number of social grant recipients is set to increase by an average of 1.5% in 2024/25.
