The Independent Examination Board (IEB) is an independent assessment agency in South Africa and its curriculum is used primarily at private schools across the country.

IEB students who registered to rewrite certain subjects and improve their matric results officially begin their rewrites on Monday, 8 May 2023.

This exam period is for the following IEB learners:

  • Learners who were absent during the November exams.
  • Learners who wish to improve on their November results.

Exams will commence today for Life Sciences, Computer Applications Technology and Information Technology students, and conclude on with Engineering, Graphics and Design and Tourism papers.

The exam rewrite period will run from today (8 May 2023) until Friday, 26 May 2023.

Once these exams are marked, these learners will apply for/receive a “combined” IEB final Grade 12 certificate.

The examination body expects to release results achieved by learners during the May rewrite exam period by 20 July 2023.

Learners may also send their May exams in for remarks and the closing date to submit your exam is 28 July 2023. Remark results are set to be released on 16 August 2023.

However, these dates are subject to confirmation by Umalusi, the body responsible for the quality assurance of assessments in South Africa.

The IEB has affirmed that candidates will be informed if there are changes to these dates.
