In an effort to provide remedial training to potential artisans the Services Seta has
launched two interventions to create opportunities for young people to complete
their apprenticeships and become qualified artisans.

The first initiative is targeted at learners who did not complete their workplace
training component in previous SSETA apprenticeship projects. Employers have been
called on to empower learners by providing training opportunities.
Services Seta will support business who choose to participate by providing
funding for:
Gap training at an approved training provider by the SETA
Employer incentive for work placement
Learner stipend per month
Medical examinations per learner (beginning and end of apprenticeship) as per trade
specifications
set of Protective Clothing
Toolbox where applicable
One Trade test attempt at the end of the process
As part of their efforts to produce qualified artisans the Services Seta is also
inviting training providers to refer learners for assessment.
The provider needs to determine skills gaps and compile a gap training plan or
report for each learner.
Both interventions are open to non-services Seta companies, however
participating parties will be required to comply with the National Artisan Development
Standardized Workplace criteria and guidelines.
If you meet the criteria and would like to get involved please submit your
application by hand to the SETA offices at 15 Sherborne Road, Parktown for the
attention of Xolani Makhubu before 10 November.
