The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has reminded parents that the deadline to submit supporting documents will expire on 30 August 2022. These documents are needed when submitting school applications for learners starting Grade 1 and Grade 8 during the 2023 school year.
Parents and guardians were required to upload on the GDE’s admission website or submit supporting documents to all the schools at which they applied within seven days of making their application.
GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona said once this deadline has passed, the department will work to accommodate learners whose parents and guardians did not upload the required supporting documents. This accommodation period will be conducted during December 2022.
Mabona assured parents that they will be accommodated and their children will be placed in schools. However, by failing to submit the supporting documents before Wednesday’s deadline parents will receive school placement offers later than parents who did.
Proof of residence is an important document needed by the GDE as it influences which schools a learner could be placed at. These are termed as feeder zones.
These parents are urged to contact the department for more information on additional documentation they may need to submit.
Five factors are considered by the department when placing a learner. These factors are based on whether the learner's home address is located in the school’s feeder zone, if siblings attend the school, the parents’ work address, and if the school is within or beyond a 30 KM radius of the learner's home address.
