The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) asked grant recipients to collect their new gold cards at the Post Office branches around the country. This is because the Post Office will begin distributing new cards on Monday, 13 March 2023.
This applies to recipients whose current gold cards are expiring in March 2023. Sassa has also revealed that only some grant recipients will be able to collect their new cards from Monday, 13 March 2023.
Sassa explained that Mondays and Tuesdays are dedicated to issuing new gold cards to Old Age grant recipients and individuals who receive Disability grants.
Individuals receiving Child Support grants and others will be able to collect their new Sassa gold cards from Wednesdays to Saturdays. These grant recipients will be able to collect their new cards from Wednesday, 15 March 2023.
Grant recipients will be assisted during the Post Office’s operating hours on weekdays and Saturdays. New gold cards will not be issued on Sundays as the Post Office is closed on that day.

Sassa said no person will be able to collect a gold card on behalf of recipients unless they are registered with Sassa as a procurator.
Individuals who lost their gold cards can also collect a new one at the Post Office. Sassa said that Post Office staff will conduct a verification check before a new card is issued.

Social grant recipients are reminded that only people who have gold cards that will expire in March 2023 are required to visit the Post Office branches to collect new cards during this month.
The agency discouraged individuals from visiting the Post Office this month to collect a new card if their cards are not expiring in March 2023.
Grants recipients carrying cards that are not expiring during March are discouraged from making attempts to collect new cards at the Post Office during this month.

Sassa says Post Office staff will assist grant recipients to activate their new cards and select a PIN. Once this is completed, the card will be fully operational, allowing grant recipients to make transactions and withdrawals.
