More than 18 million individuals receive permanent social grants paid every month by the South African government.

Some of these social grants include the Older Persons grant, Disability grant, Child Support grant, Grant In Aid, Care Dependency grant and the War Veterans grant.

Recently, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) started making social grant payments to its clients for the month of March 2023.

As per the government agency’s payment schedule, these grants are paid from the second day of each new month.

Sassa administered Older Person's Grants on 2 March 2023, whilst the agency administered disability grants on 3 March 2023.

In a statement, the government agency has confirmed:

The Child Support Grant and other grants will be paid on 6 March 2023.

Sassa grants paid to beneficiaries at pay points and post office branches are only distributed on weekdays. Beneficiaries may be able to access their monies at any time when collecting their grant at an ATM or retail store.

Retail stores that pay social grants to beneficiaries include Shoprite Checkers, U-save, Pick n Pay and Boxer stores.

The Agency has also mentioned that grants will not be distributed on weekends and public holidays. The Sassa Mpumalanga branch assured social grant clients that the gold payment card is still in use.
