Maternity leave is an important time for mothers to spend time with their newborn babies, however, it often means time away from work and could result in a loss of income.
The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) provides short-term financial relief to individuals who have contributed to the fund.
One of the benefits offered by the UIF is Maternity Benefits. CLICK HERE FOR ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MATERNITY BENEFITS.
The UIF has called on individuals who apply for UIF Maternity Benefits to update their surnames.
The UIF explained, “When applying for Maternity benefits, please update your surname at your bank if you are married so it coincides with the surname on your UIF claim to avoid delays”
“If the surname used in your claim documents does not match the one on Bank Records, the processing of your claim will be delayed until you have been updated at your bank” explained the UIF.
Should you or someone you know be experiencing challenges with your UIF claims, you may contact the fund’s toll-free call centre on 0800 030 007, email [email protected], visit a labour centre or contact their provincial officials.
