The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) says parents will begin receiving school placement offers for their children.
These placement offers will be sent to parents via SMS using the cellphone numbers provided during the Gauteng school admission process. Parents are advised to accept an offer within seven days of receiving it.
Placement offers signify the fourth step in the GDE’s learner placement programme. The department's 7-step placement process was created to ensure that all learners are placed at a school in the province.
The department says parents can expect placement offer SMS’s between Monday 3 October 2022 and Wednesday, 30 November 2022.
Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi said parents are allowed to submit an appeal if they are unhappy with their children's school placement offer. This only applies to placement offers from schools which parents did not apply to.
Lesufi has reminded parents that the placement offers they received were based on the schools they provided on the Gauteng online admissions system.
Parents were required to apply for learner placement at five schools, if the placement offer is at one of these schools, appeals are not applicable.
The reason why we are in love with the online registration as well is that it has an objection and appeal process, unlike when you queue at the school and you are told the school is full
To submit an objection, the parent must decline the placement offer, and complete an electronic objection form online. Placement objections must be submitted within seven days of receiving the placement offer.
Parents will receive a decision on their objection appeal within 14 and 21 days of its submission. The department said this appeal outcome is final.
