Parents who did not submit school placement applications in Gauteng will soon be provided with an opportunity to do so. However, the schools that they can apply to for their children will be limited due to the availability of space.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is placing learners whose parents submitted online admission applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 placement at schools around the province.

These parents and guardians submitted placement applications during the application period that took place earlier this year.

However, many learners will not be placed at a school. This is due to their parents not completing the online school application during the prescribed application period that took place between 22 July 2022 and 19 August 2022.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane assured these parents and guardians that they will be allowed to submit online admission applications later this year. However, their choices of preferred schools will be limited as spaces at many of the province's schools have already been filled.

The GDE will accept late placement applications from 20 December 2022 to 20 January 2022. During this late application stage of admissions, parents can apply to schools where there is still space available and submit documents.

Here Are The Documents Required For Gauteng School Applications

  • Parent and Child ID or Passport or Refugee Permit or asylum Seeker Permit or Permanent Residence Permit or Study Permit
  • South African Birth certificate
  • Proof of Home Address
  • Proof of Work Address

A clinic card/vaccination card or immunisation card is required for Grade 1 applications while the latest school report is required for Grade 8 applications.

The processing of late applications from 20 December 2022 will be the final stage of the Gauteng Online Admissions process. It is expected that once this stage is completed,  all learners will be placed in Grade 1 or Grade 8 classrooms in the province.
