SA businesswomen to discuss future of women leadership
The event, which will take the form of a panel discussion, is titled ‘A new decade: where will women leaders be in ten years’ time – more of the same or more at the top?’. It is being arranged by the UCT GSB’s Women in Leadership programme, one of the only courses in the country designed exclusively for women leaders.
Dr Marjolijn Dijksterhuis, Director of the Women in Leadership programme, said the panel discussion would offer the audience insight into the personal experiences and perspectives of the senior women leaders on the panel.
“Women, we know, have made great strides in achieving equality in business and society – but there are still not enough women in the senior leadership positions where decision-making takes place. As we move into a new decade there is a sense of optimism – albeit cautious – that women leaders can really step into this realm during the next ten years,” said Dijksterhuis.
“Essentially, we want to gauge whether women in South Africa feel the next decade will see seismic shifts in the gender balance of the country’s senior leadership in business and government – and give them an opportunity to discuss their hopes and fears freely with their peers,” she added.
Leading the panel discussion will be senior women leaders from business and government, including Beverley Damonse – Executive Director at the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) and Fezeka Nompumza – Senior Manager, Fund Management at Metropolitan Health Group, amongst others.
Entrepreneur, coach and people developer Sue von Hirschfeld will act as moderator for the evening and take questions and comments from the audience. She is co-founder of Positive Change International and lectures on people and management at the UCT GSB.
The Women in Leadership panel discussion takes place on Tuesday, 16 February at 17:30 at the UCT GSB campus in Green Point. Call Junita Abrahams on 021 406 1323 or email abrahams@gsb.uct.ac.za to book your place. This event is free of charge, seating is limited.
An opportunity to network will follow.
