The National Student Financial Aid Scheme provides funding to qualifying students that are registered to study at TVET colleges and public universities in South Africa. The bursary scheme has now released a statement with an update on student allowances.


NSFAS scheme has come under fire recently regarding payments delays for student monthly allowances. As a result, the government bursary scheme says it has accelerated processing of student allowances.


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme established a payment method to help its bursary recipients access their monthly student allowances. Students will be accessing these funds through a bank account.

 


As of the 2023 academic year, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) established a new payment method for its bursary recipients to access their monthly allowances. The Scheme first piloted this in public Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

 


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has established a payment method students will use to access their monthly allowances as of the 2023 academic year and university students have been advised to open their bank account to conveniently receive their monthly allowances.

 


Although it has been a few weeks since the NSFAS confirmed that allowances are being disbursed to TVET college, a recent portfolio committee meeting indicates this is only true for a select few. 


If you are an NSFAS-funded Unisa student who has been waiting for an update on your allowance payment, the bursary scheme has announced that it will bring some much-needed relief.  
 


To tackle some of the issues and challenges in its current funding model, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme has put forth several policy changes that aim to ensure smooth operations during the 2023 academic year.


The dilemma caused by South Africa's rising living standards has gotten significantly worse in recent years. As a result, this has raised questions as to whether the National Student Financial Aid Scheme will make any changes.
