The teachers union Sadtu has announced that they have embarked on a national strike, to being on Wednesday 18th August 2010. "The members totally rejected the latest government offer of R700 for housing allowance, 7% of salary adjustment and the 1st July implementation date and have shown overwhelming support for a strike."

Parents in Mpumalanga have been urged to register their children for the 2011 school year before the end of October this year. Schools are required by law to register learners for the 2011 school year from 1 August to 31 October 2010 for both learners re-registering and new applicants.
