If you are a parent or guardian who has been looking to secure school placement for your child at a public school in the Free State, you may be pleased to know that applications are now open for the 2024 school year.
How To Submit Your School Application
To apply, parents and guardians are required to complete an application form that is made available in public schools in the province. The provincial education department also advises parents to apply as soon as possible since admissions are processed on a first come first serve basis.
Parents will also be required to provide the following supporting document when registering their child.
Documents Needed To Apply
- Birth certificate
- Immunisation card
- Transfer/last school report
- Study permits for foreign learners
- Parents ID
Additional documents required if you are not a South African citizen are:
- Study Permit
- Temporary or permanent residence permit from the Department of Home Affairs; or
- Evidence that you have applied for permission to stay in South Africa
Free State School Admissions Closing Date
The provincial education department has also confirmed that all school applications for the 2024 school year must be submitted by 31 August 2023.
The 2024 School Calendar
Both inland and Coastal public schools will have a total of 199 instructional school days spread over a total of 43 weeks. Term dates for the 2024 school year are outlined as follows:
Term dates for Inland schools:
- First Term 12 January - 17 March
- Second Term 5 April - 24 June
- Third Term 19 July - 30 September
- Fourth Term 11 October - 14 December
Term dates for Coastal Cluster schools:
- First Term 19 January - 25 March
- Second Term 5 April - 24 June
- Third Term 19 July - 30 September
- Fourth Term 11 October - 14 December
This means that 2024 schools year will conclude its final term on 14 December.
