The University of South Africa (Unisa) has opened applications for Masters's and Doctoral qualifications for the 2025 academic year. Prospective students are urged to apply as soon as possible.
The application period officially began on Monday, 2 September 2024, and will close on 22 November 2024, giving applicants just over 80 days to submit their applications.
As an Open Distance e-learning (ODeL) institution, Unisa offers flexible learning options, allowing students to study independently from the comfort of their homes. The university’s online examination system further enhances its accessibility.
These factors make Unisa a popular choice among individuals seeking to further their studies, underscoring the importance of submitting applications early to avoid disappointment.
Early Application is Crucial
Prospective students are encouraged to apply for admission as soon as possible. Qualifications will be removed from the application list once all available spaces for the 2025 academic year have been filled. The university also urges students wishing to further their studies at Unisa in 2025 to apply during this period.
Final-year honours, postgraduate diploma, and master’s degree students are advised to take advantage of this opportunity to submit their applications before the closing date if they plan to continue their studies in 2025.

Who Must Apply for Admission?
Applications are required from all individuals intending to start a new qualification, including:
- First-time Unisa applicants.
- Current Unisa students seeking a new qualification.
- Students completing their current qualifications and aiming to begin a master's or doctoral degree.
- Previously registered master's and doctoral students who did not enrol in the 2024 academic year but wish to continue their studies.
Unlike undergraduate applications at Unisa, applicants are limited to applying for only one qualification at the master's and doctoral level. Applicants need to ensure they meet the minimum admission requirements for their chosen qualification before applying. If a second application is submitted, it will automatically replace the first one.
Applicants for qualifications through the Graduate School of Business Leadership (GSBL) must first apply for a Unisa student number unless they have previously studied at Unisa towards a formal qualification. The entire application process is conducted online.
For those applying to GSBL, please ensure you have a Unisa student number (if you haven't studied at Unisa before) and complete the online application process.
