Free State to host BEE conference
22-FEB-05
"The conference will provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen the mobilisation of the province's commitment to secure higher economy growth and better outcomes, said the provincial economic affairs department.
Tourism, Environment and Economic Affairs MEC Benny Malakoane said the development of a broad-based BEE was one tool to encourage the redistribution of wealth and opportunities to previously disadvantaged black communities.
"Black economic empowerment strives to increase in the number of black people who have ownership and control of existing enterprises."
MEC Malakoane said the successful implementation of the BEE strategy would result in increased job opportunities.
The conference will again deliberate on issues of finance, women in business, agriculture and infrastructure development.
It makes way for a series of provincial summits to be held towards the development of the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy to address among others issues of poverty eradication and human resource development.
