The Limpopo Department of Education (LDoE) has officially opened the 2025 admission applications period. Parents in the province will have until the end of July 2024 to submit a placement application for their children who are set to attend Grade R, Grade 1 or Grade 8 in 2025.

We can only achieve this goal if parents and guardians enrol their children on time. Learner admissions for the 2025 academic year will commence on 27 May 2024.

Parents and guardians are urged to register learners promptly, as admissions will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority in admissions will be given to children residing closer to the school, although learners from farther away will be considered based on available space.

According to the South African Schools Act (SASA), a child must turn five years old on or before 30 June 2025 to be eligible for Grade R placement. Similarly, children turning six years old on or before 30 June 2025 are eligible for Grade 1 placement.

How to Apply

The LDoE advises that parents can collect registration forms from schools for Grades R, 1, and 8 admission applications. These forms must be collected and submitted by 31 July 2024.

For internal grades, parents can collect registration forms between 9 September 2024 and 13 September 2024, and they must submit these forms between 16 and 20 September 2024.

Required Documents

To ensure a smooth registration process, parents are encouraged to have the following documents readily available:

  • Birth certificate or acceptable proof of birth date
  • Immunisation card
  • Transfer card (if applicable)
  • Last report card
  • For non-South African citizens: a study/work permit, a temporary or permanent residence permit from the South African Department of Home Affairs, and evidence of application for permission to stay in South Africa

The LDoE will closely monitor the admissions process to ensure fairness and protect the rights of learners against any form of discrimination.
