Who Qualifies for the Disability Grant?
To be eligible for the Disability Grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African Citizenship: Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee residing in South Africa.
- Age: Be between 18 and 59 years old.
- Disability: Have a severe and permanent disability verified by a medical report no older than three months.
- Means Test: Both the applicant and their spouse (if applicable) must pass a financial assessment.
- No Institutionalization: The applicant must not reside in a state institution.
- No Other Grant: The applicant cannot be receiving any other social grant.
- Income and Asset Limits:
- Single applicants: Maximum income of R97,320 and assets of R1,379,400.
- Married applicants: Maximum combined income of R194,640 and assets of R2,758,800.
How to Apply for the Disability Grant
Applicants must obtain a medical assessment from a healthcare professional using the SASSA Medical Assessment Referral Form. Once the assessment is complete, they can proceed with the formal grant application process.
Approved applicants can receive a monthly payment of up to R2,080.
