The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has now provided an update on preparations for the 2024 academic year. 2024 NSFAS applications are currently open until 31 January.

In a statement released, NSFAS said:

To date, NSFAS has received 1,406,189 applications as of the 15th of January 2024. NSFAS anticipates close to 1 000 000 additional applications before the close of the 2024 application cycle on 31 January 2024.

NSFAS has however urged students to follow a very important step to finalise their NSFAS applications.

Applicants Must Submit A 2024 NSFAS Consent Form

While filling out a NSFAS online application, it's compulsory for applicants to submit the NSFAS consent form (available on the NSFAS website), so that the information provided can be verified by third parties. NSFAS explained, "The information is required to verify the employment status and income level of the parents, guardians, or spouses of the applicant."

The form will need to be downloaded, completed and then uploaded onto the myNSFAS system.

Should the applicant have seen a NSFAS status reading "Awaiting Evaluation", "Application Data" or "Financial Eligibility", they would then have to wait for NSFAS to give further instructions, through SMS and email, about submitting the consent form.

Sassa beneficiaries don't have to submit the NSFAS consent form, due to no financial checks being conducted.

Should applicants not submit the form, this will lead to delays in getting their NSFAS funding.

Check Your NSFAS Status

If you have submitted your funding application, you may be wondering what the outcome is. Fortunately, once you apply for NSFAS you can track the status of your NSFAS online application form on the NSFAS website in a few simple steps.

Here is how to do a NSFAS status check for your application status.

  1. Log in to your NSFAS account on the myNSFAS student portal here
  2. Enter your username and password and sign in
  3. Click on Track Funding Progress
  4. You will then be able to track funding progress and check your NSFAS status

Once there, there are a number of results you might receive when doing a NSFAS status check while applying for NSFAS funding.
