The eagerly awaited Matric results for the Class of 2024 have finally been released. Thousands of South African matriculants are now making their way to exam centers across the country to receive their long-awaited results.

The Class of 2024 has achieved a historic milestone with a remarkable matric pass rate of 87.3%, a significant 4.4% increase from the previous year's 82.9%. This resounding success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of learners, teachers, and the entire education sector.

 

How to Access Your Matric Results

Matric results are now available to candidates through multiple channels:

  • Online: Visit the official Department of Education website and follow the simple steps:
    1. Enter your examination number.
    2. Provide any additional required personal details.
    3. Click "Search."
    4. Your matric results will be displayed.
  • Exam Centers: Collect your results directly from your respective exam center.

The Minister for the Department of Basic Education (DBE), Siviwe Gwarube, announced:

At a provincial level, I’m pleased to announce that every province improved on it’s performance from 2023 and every province has achieved above 84% pass rate.

Provincial Matric Pass Rates

  • Western Cape: 86.6%
  • Gauteng: 88.4%
  • Limpopo: 85.1%
  • Eastern Cape: 84.98%
  • Kwazulu-Natal: 89.5%
  • North West: 87.5%
  • Northern Cape: 84.2%
  • Mpumalanga: 84.9%
  • Free State: 91%

832,993 public school candidates wrote the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams across 150 subjects. An impressive 319,651 distinctions were achieved by the Class of 2024.

“This represents a significant increase of over 65 000 distinctions from last year. Some of these increases were seen in key subjects, including Mathematics. I am pleased to report that every province increased the number of distinctions achieved in 2023," said Gwarube.

School Performance Report

While the Minister announced provincial results and recognized top-performing learners in each subject, the detailed performance of individual schools will be available in the forthcoming School Performance Report.
