The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has officially opened the 2025 school placement window. Parents will receive placement offers via their mobile numbers and should accept them within 7 days to secure their child's spot.
Placement offers will be issued to applicants with Complete Applications from 16 September 2024 until all applicants are placed.
If you receive multiple offers, promptly accept one to free up spaces for other learners.
How GDE School Placements Work
Accepted placement offers are final. Parents can provisionally accept offers while waiting for others, but they risk losing their initial placement.
For updates on application progress, parents can visit the Gauteng admissions website.
Within 7 days of receiving a placement offer, the parents/guardians must log onto https://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za/ using their login credentials to either accept a placement offer as final OR provisionally accept an offer which means the offer is accepted while awaiting other offers.
"If you next placement offer is acceded while awaiting other offers, your precious offer will no longer be available. If no further placement offers are made to the parent within 7 days, this means all other schools apple to have received capacity and the learner is placed at the school where the last offer was accepted while awaiting further offers."
SMSs will be sent out on a continental basis from 16 September 2024 until all learners are placed. Parents who have not received placement offers can log onto the GDE admissions website to check the progress of their application.
Parents were able to apply to up to five schools and were assessed using the following criteria:
- Proximity: Schools within the feeder zone are prioritized.
- Sibling Preference: Siblings attending the same school are given preference.
- Previous School: For Grade 7 learners, proximity to their current school is considered.
- Parent's Workplace: Schools near the parent's workplace are an option.
- Residence: Applicants within a 30-kilometer radius are preferred. If no suitable schools are available within this radius, residence beyond 30 kilometers is considered.
