Parents and guardians residing in the Northern Cape, who are still in search of a school placement for their child in grade 1 or 8 for 2024, have an opportunity. The provincial education department has confirmed the availability of a late application period.
The late application period for school admissions in the Northern Cape is scheduled to commence on 8 January 2024 and conclude on 16 January 2024. The announcement is as follows:
The Northern Cape Department of Education would like to inform all parents and/or legal guardians that late admission applications for the 2024 school academic year, will open on Monday, 08 January 2024 (09:00) until Tuesday, 16 January 2024 (23:59).
How To Apply
School admission applications can be submitted through the Northern Cape Department of Education's school admissions website.
Parents or guardians are required to register as users and then log into the system using their chosen username and password.
After you have completed and submitted your school admission application along with the necessary documents, the system will send an SMS confirming the receipt of your application.
The following documents are required:
- Certified copy of the official birth certificate/ID
- Most recent school report card of the child
- Proof that the child has been immunized against polio, measles, tuberculosis, diphtheria, tetanus and hepatitis B
- Transfer card
- Parent/guardian's ID
- Proof of child's residence
- Proof of home address
If a parent desires a particular school that is not listed, it indicates that the school has reached its capacity.
Acknowledging the challenges of internet connectivity in numerous rural areas within the province, the department has established 83 walk-in centers to aid individuals in completing applications offline.
For parents or guardians seeking admission and placements for grades other than 1 and 8, direct application to schools is needed.
2024 School Calendar
In previous years the schools in coastal provinces started at a different time to schools located at inland provinces. The Basic Education Department has decided that all public schools across the country will now start and end their school terms at the same time.
Term dates for all schools:
- First Term: 17 January - 20 March
- Second Term: 3 April - 14 June
- Third Term 9 July - 20 September
- Fourth Term 1 October - 13 December
Consequently, all schools' academic years will conclude on 13 December.
