Postbank has assured recipients of grants from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) that their gold cards will continue to function and will not have expired in December. Despite the expiration of numerous gold cards, both those that have already expired and those scheduled to expire, they will remain fully operational throughout 2024.

Sassa disburses 19 million permanent grants each month, covering various categories such as the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up, and Grant-in-aid.

In 2023, it was disclosed that approximately 5.3 million cards were slated for replacement by 31 December 2023. A significant portion of these Sassa gold cards has already expired.

Nevertheless, Sassa subsequently declared an extension of the validity of these Sassa cards, allowing them to be used beyond the originally stipulated December deadline.

All grant beneficiaries are reminded that SASSA gold cards will not expire in December and will continue to work for grant payments beyond December 2023.

Where To Use Your Expired Sassa Gold Card

Recipients of social grants have the option to collect their grants at diverse retail outlets, including Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Usave, and Checkers. Additionally, they can utilize their Sassa cards at ATMs.

However, beneficiaries will no longer have the option to withdraw cash at Post Offices. Alternatively, beneficiaries can opt to have their grants deposited directly into their bank accounts, providing them with access to their funds at any time once Sassa completes the payment.

Sassa has emphasized that beneficiaries should keep the following in mind:

There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed.

Sassa Gold Cards offer various transaction benefits, such as free withdrawals in retail shops and free statements, empowering beneficiaries and saving on transaction costs.
