In South Africa, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) offers various social grants to assist those in need. These grants provide a vital safety net for millions of South Africans, helping them cover basic necessities like food and shelter.
These grants come in various categories to assist different groups, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and children.
In this article, we'll break down the different Sassa grant values.
Sassa Grant Increases Announced for 2024
Sassa confirmed increases to various social grants throughout 2024. These adjustments will take effect in two phases: April 1st and October 1st.
The details of the grant increases were announced in February 2024 by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana during his Budget Speech. These changes were then confirmed by the Social Development Minister.
There's also positive news for recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, often called the R350 grant. In March, Godongwana announced an increase for the SRD grant as well.
Starting in April, beneficiaries will see their grant amount rise from R350 to R370 per month. This represents a R20 or 5.7% increase, aiming to provide additional support for vulnerable adults in South Africa.
