The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) revealed that nearly nine million people have applied for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. While many applications were approved, not everyone has received the grant.
How to Check Your Sassa Status
If you applied for the R370 grant, you can check your application status online on the Sassa SRD website. This will tell you if your application has been approved, rejected, or is still pending.
How to Submit A Sassa Appeal
If your application was rejected but you believe you qualify for the grant, you can appeal Sassa's decision. Appeals are handled by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).
The ITSAA reviews Sassa's decisions and can either uphold, change, or overturn them after consulting with a civil society member. According to the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA), the ITSAA has 90 days to make a decision on appeals.
How to Check Your Sassa Appeal Status
If you have submitted an appeal, you can check its status to see if the ITSAA has upheld or overturned Sassa’s decision.
