The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) has released the eagerly awaited matric results for the Class of 2024. A total of 16,304 learners, comprising 14,990 full-time and 1,314 part-time candidates, sat for the 2024 IEB National Senior Certificate exams at 275 examination centers across South Africa.
The IEB announced a remarkable 98.47% pass rate for the Class of 2024. This achievement is particularly noteworthy, as it includes:
- Bachelors Passes: 89.37%
- Diploma Passes: 7.56%
- Higher Certificate Passes: 1.53%
- Endorsed Passes: 0.02%
Furthermore, the Class of 2024 set a new record with the highest degree study pass rate in the past five years.

How to Access Your IEB Matric Results
- School Notification: Schools will receive the official results from the IEB and will then distribute them to their respective candidates.
- Online Access: Results will be available for viewing on the official IEB website.
- SMS Results:
- If you have provided your cellphone number to the IEB, your results will be automatically sent to that number.
- To register for SMS results, send an SMS to 35135 with the following format: "Results (your examination number) (your DOB yyyymmdd)". You will receive a confirmation message and your results upon release.
Re-marking and Rewrite
- Re-marking: Candidates who are dissatisfied with their results can apply for a re-mark. The application deadline for re-marks is 31 January 2025, with results expected on 1 March 2025.
- Rewrite: Candidates can also apply for a matric rewrite. The next rewrite opportunity will be in May/June 2025. Applications for the May 2025 rewrite will be open from 1 March to 14 March 2025.
The official certificate/statement of results, issued by UMALUSI, will be sent to your school in April following the release of the matric results.
UMALUSI, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, has announced its standardisation decisions. 42 subjects will retain their raw marks, while 8 subjects will have upward adjustments and 8 will have downward adjustments.
The IEB is obligated to nullify the results of any candidates implicated in exam irregularities.
