This achievement marks a slight improvement from the 2022 pass rate of 98.4%. The results encompass three distinct levels: 88.59% attained a degree pass, 8.31% secured a diploma pass, and 1.57% received a higher certificate pass.

The IEB reported a significant increase in candidates, with 15,186 students participating in the 2023 as opposed to 13,525 who wrote matric exams in 2022. The increase is attributed to 17 new schools, bringing 960 candidates to the IEB for the first time in 2023.

Umalusi, the quality assurance body for exams recently announced their approval of the IEB matric exams. Their Executive Committee (EXCO) approved the release of results, confirming that the exams adhered to NSC regulations.

In acknowledging the matric class of 2023, the IEB expressed gratitude for the dedication and support of teachers, parents, guardians, and all contributors to the students' success. Despite the challenges faced by the class of 2023, the board highlighted the importance of diligence, persistence, and perseverance in achieving success.

IEB CEO Confidence Dikgole noted that despite challenges such as disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, learners were well-prepared for success in the 2023 matric exams. Dikgole encouraged learners to pursue further studies after completing matric, emphasizing the availability of diverse options beyond a university degree.

The IEB emphasized the variety of educational routes available, each allowing students to showcase their talents and enthusiasm in fields that capture their interest. The board offered encouragement to those who did not succeed, highlighting alternative avenues for continuing their educational journey.

Additionally, the IEB reminded candidates about the 1 February 2024 deadline for remarking applications, with remark results scheduled for release on 1 March 2024. Learners eligible for the May/June matric exam rewrites have until 15 March 2024 to enroll.
