Parents and guardians of children turning six in 2025 can apply for their child's admission to a Western Cape school for the upcoming academic year.
How to Apply for Grade R in the Western Cape
To apply for a Grade R placement, parents and guardians must visit the WCED online admissions website.
Parents who have not registered on the online system previously will first need to register on the online site. Once registration is completed, they can then proceed to the application.
To streamline the application process, it's recommended to have the following information readily available:
- Pen and paper to record your password
- Email address
- ID number
- Scanned certified copies of required documents (clearly labeled)

- Access the WCED Website: Visit the official WCED website.
- Select Admissions: Click on the "Admissions 2024/25" option.
- Parent/Guardian Registration:
- If you haven't registered, click "Parent Register."
- Carefully read the terms and conditions before proceeding.
- Complete the required registration details.
- Create a strong password and answer security questions.
- Complete the Profile:
- Provide accurate contact information (email and cellphone number).
- Indicate the preferred address for school admission purposes.
- Start Learner Application:
- Fill in all necessary information about your child.
- Upload required documents:
- Immunization card
- ID, birth certificate, passport, study permit, or proof of application/police affidavit
- Proof of address or police affidavit
