Western Cape parents and guardians, not much time is left to plan for your child's education!

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will soon be closing school transfer applications for the 2025 school year. This process is separate from Grade R, 1, and 8 admissions.

WCED school transfer applications will close on 16 August.

How to Apply for a School Transfer

To apply for a school transfer for your child in Grades 2-7 or 9-12, you'll need to visit the school you prefer or your nearest WCED office. While schools can only process applications for their own students, district offices can handle multiple schools.

Required Documents:

  • Your child’s most recent school report card
  • Identification documents (ID, birth certificate, passport, or study permit) for your child
  • Proof of address or a police affidavit

You can submit your application and required documents either in person or online if the school offers this option.

2025 School Calendar

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has confirmed the school calendar for 2025. Schools will start the year on 15 January and end on 10 December.

Key Dates for the 2025 School Year:

  • Term 1: January 15th - March 28th
  • Term 2: April 8th - June 27th
  • Term 3: July 22nd - October 3rd
  • Term 4: October 13th - December 10th

Unlike previous years, all schools nationwide will begin and end the first term on the same dates.
