If you're not satisfied with your matric results, you have the opportunity to improve them by rewriting your exams. The next rewrite opportunity is the May/June 2025 matric rewrite examination period.
Applications for the May/June 2025 matric rewrite are now open and will close on 7 February 2025.
The Department of Basic Education said:
The registration period for the 2025 SC/NSC May/June examinations will open on 1 October 2024 and close on 7 February 2025.
How to Apply
- In-Person: Visit your local district office with your ID and your Matric certificate or statement of results.
- Online: Apply online through the Department of Basic Education's website.
2025 May/June Matric Rewrite Results
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) will release the results in early August 2025.
Results can be collected at the school or examination center where you wrote your exams. You will also be notified via SMS.
Understanding Matric Passes
- Bachelor's Pass: Requires at least 50% in five designated subjects (including Life Orientation), above 30% in two other subjects, and only one failed subject. Allows entry to universities and colleges for studies like medicine, law, and psychology.
- Diploma Pass: Requires at least 40% in five designated subjects (including Life Orientation), at least 30% in two other subjects, and only one failed subject. Enables entry to some higher learning institutions and technical colleges for studies such as engineering and nursing.
- Higher Certificate Pass: Requires at least 40% in Home Language, 40% in at least two subjects, 30% in three other subjects, and only one failed subject. Allows entry to TVET colleges and some private colleges for further studies.
- Failing Matric: Failing two subjects (scoring 0-29%) results in failing the year. Don't be discouraged! You can rewrite the entire year or just the failed subjects.
