The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) administers social grants to around 19 million beneficiaries each month. Beneficiaries can access their grant payments through their Sassa gold card.
Sassa distributes several permanent grants to beneficiaries monthly. These grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Postbank has assured all social grant beneficiaries that even if their Sassa Gold Card has expired, it remains fully valid and functional for all social grant payments throughout the entirety of 2024.
Beneficiaries are reminded that there is no need to change banks or replace their Sassa Gold Card. Postbank said that grants will continue to be paid seamlessly and on time through their existing, albeit expired, Sassa Gold Card.
Never listen to anyone telling you to change to another bank claiming that your grant won’t be paid because your Sassa Gold Card won’t work. The Postbank called on beneficiaries to report anyone instructing them to change to another bank, claiming that their Sassa Gold Card won’t work and the cards are being replaced.
Only Postbank is authorised to replace your Sassa Gold Card. You can report these incidents on 0800 53 54 55. Beneficiaries can collect their Sassa grants at various payment points, including ATMs and retail stores such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer.
Post Office Grant Payments
Postbank has reminded grant beneficiaries that cash services at Post Office branches will be progressively phased out. This is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing customer service standards.
However, beneficiaries will no longer have the option to withdraw cash at Post Offices. Alternatively, beneficiaries can opt to have their grants deposited directly into their bank accounts, providing them with access to their funds at any time once Sassa completes the payment.
While beneficiaries may not be able to withdraw their Sassa grants at post office branches, beneficiaries facing issues with lost or stolen Sassa Gold Cards can still visit any Post Office branch nationwide to obtain a replacement Sassa Gold Card.
Sassa Gold Cards offer various transaction benefits, such as free withdrawals in retail shops and free statements, empowering beneficiaries and saving on transaction costs.
