The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides financial support through comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This financial aid covers tuition, registration fees, and allowances for essential living and study expenses.

The government bursary scheme has confirmed that universities will continue disbursing allowances until the end of the year.
How Unisa NSFAS Allowances for October 2024 Will Be Disbursed
Initially, universities were responsible for distributing allowances until the end of July. However, a recent NSFAS update has extended this arrangement, allowing universities, including Unisa, to continue payments through December.
Unisa students will receive their October 2024 allowances directly from their universities.
NSFAS Benefits for Unisa Students
Unisa students funded by NSFAS are eligible for both the Learning Materials Allowance and the Living Allowance.
Learning Materials Allowance
This allowance is based on the number of modules a student is registered for. Unisa students receive R700 per module for the first four modules and a one-time payment of R5,460 if enrolled in five or more modules.
If a student has already received R5,200 for the first five modules, no additional funds will be provided for any extra modules. This allowance is intended for purchasing textbooks and other required study materials.
Living Allowance
This allowance is available to students registered for ten or more modules. Additionally, Unisa students enrolled in ten or more modules qualify for an incidental allowance.
Besides these allowances, NSFAS also covers tuition and registration fees for students.
