Students in South Africa can breathe a sigh of relief as the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) prepares for a smooth start to the 2025 academic year. NSFAS will be deploying staff and resources to college campuses across all provinces to ensure students receive the financial support they need.
NSFAS offers bursaries and loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This financial aid covers more than just tuition and registration fees.
Students can also receive NSFAS allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials, helping them manage the overall cost of their education.
To further improve their support efforts, NSFAS has recently concluded its graduate recruitment drive. Newly appointed interns will be assisting financial aid administrators with bursary-related tasks.
This is to ensure a smooth start of the 2025 academic year for our beneficiaries. NSFAS Circular 13 of 2024 sent to institutions on 07 January 2025, advised that as part of our student support plans, we will deploy officials to all institutions for a period of two months, from 13 January 2025 until 07 March 2025.
These graduates are currently undergoing training to ensure they have the skills needed to effectively assist students.
"The deployment and placement of these resources to institutions is aimed at ensuring that for the 2025 academic year, each institution has a resource tasked with assisting students with queries which need NSFAS’ attention."
Don't Forget Your Supporting Documents!
NSFAS is reminding applicants that submitting supporting documents is crucial for processing their funding applications. Students can easily upload their documents by logging into their myNSFAS portal.
Applicants have 30 days to submit from the day of receiving communication. Applicants must not wait for the deadline, but should submit now.
Applicants can track the status of their applications through various channels, including WhatsApp, USSD, or email. NSFAS has provided contact information for all these channels in the document you provided.
Applicants are not required to pay registration fees to institutions as their NSFAS funding is confirmed. "Wait for communication from NSFAS on the final decision," said NSFAS.
Be vigilant against fraudsters posing as NSFAS officials. If you suspect any suspicious activity, report it immediately to the NSFAS ethics and fraud hotline.
