The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides comprehensive financial assistance to deserving South African students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This includes covering tuition, registration fees, and allowances for food, accommodation, and study materials.
NSFAS is now accepting applications for 2025 funding. While thousands of students have already applied, it's important to be aware of a recent scam targeting NSFAS applicants.
Beware of NSFAS Scams
NSFAS has issued a stern warning against applying for funding on any websites other than the official myNSFAS platform. Scammers have created fake websites designed to trick applicants into sharing personal information.
We urge applicants Not to click or make use of this URL Link to avoid their accounts being defrauded. Please only use ‘www.nsfas.org.za” for NSFAS application-related matters.
How to Apply for NSFAS
- Visit myNSFAS: Go to the official NSFAS website and create a myNSFAS account.
- Complete the Application: Click "Apply" and fill out the online application form.
- Upload Documents: Submit all required supporting documents, including your ID, proof of income, academic results, and more.
- Submit and Wait: Once you've completed the application, submit it and wait for a response.
The deadline for submitting 2025 NSFAS funding applications is 15 December.
NSFAS Applications Update
In the initial week of the 2025 application period, NSFAS received over 200,000 bursary applications. A significant number of these applicants, specifically those who are Sassa grant beneficiaries, have already been provisionally approved for funding.
Prioritizing Funding Decisions
NSFAS will prioritize immediate funding decisions for Sassa recipients and first-time entering students. The goal is to finalize all funding decisions by 31 December 2024.
