The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) offers NSFAS funding to students wanting to access higher education. This NSFAS funding includes allowances used to cover essential expenses like student accommodation, transportation, and other living costs, ensuring you can focus on your studies.

NSFAS has confirmed that allowances for June have been paid to all accommodation providers who submitted claims through the official channels.

NSFAS is pleased to announce that a bulk payment of accommodation allowances was processed by the end of May and the Beginning of June 2024.

NSFAS administrator Freeman Nomvalo urges landlords to refrain from evictions due to outstanding payments. Landlords with unprocessed claims can contact NSFAS at [email protected].

King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) TVET College students facing evictions due to delayed NSFAS allowances can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The financial aid scheme has committed to addressing the issue and expediting payments.

NSFAS met with KSD TVET College representatives to discuss the urgent matter of outstanding accommodation allowances. Allowances for affected students at the Ngcobo campus will be paid starting 25 June 2024.

How Much NSFAS Allowance Payments Are

University Students:

  • Living Allowance: R16,500 per year (R1,345 per month for meals and personal care)
  • Learning Materials: Up to R5,460 per year
  • Transport Allowance: R7,718 per year (R771 per month) for off-campus residents exceeding 10km
  • Students with Disabilities: Increased living allowances and learning material support may be available. 

TVET College Students:

  • Living Allowance: R10,000 per year
  • Learning Materials: Varies by course
  • Transport Allowance: R7,718 per year (R771 per month) for off-campus residents exceeding 10km
  • Students with Disabilities: Increased living allowances and learning material support may be available.

This move by NSFAS aims to prevent further student evictions and ensure they have stable housing while pursuing their education.
