NSFAS Offices Now Closed But You Can Still Apply For Funding

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme, or NSFAS, has officially closed their doors, for now. Applications do however remain open so here's where and how to apply.

Now that we are in the thick of festive, many business and organisation operations will now be coming to a standstill. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has therefore announced that their offices will be closed from 15 December.

The NSFAS offices are set to reopen on 5 January, with the organisation saying:

After a long and busy 2022, our NSFAS offices will be closed from December 15, 2022 to January 05, 2023 for our team to get the necessary rejuvenation needed to start the new year on a great note.

NSFAS applications will however stay open until 31 January 2023, with it being open since 28 September 2022. With NSFAS offices being closed, how can NSFAS applications be submitted?

Well, the main channel for NSFAS applications is by using the NSFAS website. NSFAS online applications can be submitted by using myNSFAS.

Here's how to submit a NSFAS online application:

  1. Create a myNsfas account 
    • If you have an existing myNsfas account, click on 'login' when going to myNsfas and complete your information
    • If you don't have a myNsfas account, click on 'Create account'
  2. Log into your myNsfas account
  3. Click on 'Apply'
  4. Answer the questions on the screen
  5. Upload the required supporting documents
  6. Click on 'Submit'
  7. You will then receive an application reference number

NSFAS applicants will be able to pause the process and continue at a later stage without restarting from scratch.

NSFAS has also developed additional channels of application, through a mobile app, USSD and WhatsApp. Through these channels, applicants can also track and cancel their applications. 

Nsfas provides funding to students studying at one of South Africa's public Universities and TVET Colleges who come from poor and working class backgrounds. The Nsfas bursary covers more than just your tuition fees with allowances given for transport, accommodation and other student needs.
