The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has finalised most of the appeal applications for the 2025 academic year.
NSFAS offers bursaries and student loans to qualifying students at universities and TVET colleges. Funding covers tuition and registration fees, along with allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
Every year, thousands apply. Unsuccessful applicants have 30 days to file an NSFAS appeal, including documents that could overturn the rejection.
Minister Nobuhle Nkabane confirmed most 2025 appeals have been processed. The NSFAS Appeals Tribunal is now reviewing outcomes for fairness and consistency.
“The NSFAS Appeals and Tribunals Committee is currently reviewing these outcomes to ensure consistency and appropriate application of policy.”
There is no set deadline for completing the reviews. Students are urged to monitor their status and upload any additional documents if requested.
“Students are encouraged to regularly check their accounts to upload any additional documents requested in relation to their appeals.”
