The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has provided an update on the NSFAS status of student applications and appeals for funding. Students who were previously listed as "pending decisions" can now view the outcome of their assessments on the NSFAS portal.
Those who have been approved for funding will be reflected on the funding list, while students whose applications have been rejected have the option to lodge an appeal with the appropriate supporting documentation.
It is important to note that if the appeal option button is not available on a student's profile, it signifies that the application has been declined and closed due to reasons that cannot be appealed.
As of Thursday 15 June 2023, the updated funding list is accessible on the NSFAS portal for institutions to review. The list provides transparency regarding the students who have been approved for financial assistance.
NSFAS also stated that they are processing the appeals submitted by students. Approved NSFAS appeals will be updated on the NSFAS funding list, and the student's funding outcome will be reflected on their myNSFAS student portal. Conversely, if an appeal is rejected, the student will be notified of this decision through the portal.
NSFAS Appeals Applicants Urged To Submit Supporting Documents
The scheme has also noted that a significant number of students have lodged appeals but failed to submit the necessary supporting documents. NSFAS emphasises that appeals cannot be concluded without the required documentation.
Consequently, the bursary scheme will be sending SMS reminders to these students, requesting that they submit the relevant documents within 10 working days. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in the closure of their appeal.
Institutions have also been urged to actively encourage students to promptly submit the necessary supporting documents to avoid delays or potential closure of their appeals.
