According to Nkabane, the affected students are all enrolled at a single TVET College. NSFAS has committed to finalising the delayed allowance payments by 30 April 2025.
We acknowledge that a specific group of approximately 800 students at a specific institution is experiencing challenges with the transfer of funds. The Scheme is committed to rectifying this matter by 30 April 2025,
Nkabane apologised to students, acknowledging that delays in disbursing allowances are unacceptable. She assured that efforts are being made to prevent future delays and to ensure timely support for all beneficiaries.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by the delays in allowances – delayed payments are unacceptable. We recognise the impact of these delays, as students depend entirely on their allowances for living expenses. We are committed to ensuring that our students receive the essential support efficiently and promptly.
Payment Delays Spark Concern
Last week, NSFAS dismissed circulating social media reports about allowance payment delays as false and misleading. The Scheme described these posts as “fabricated information” intended to “cause unnecessary confusion.”
Ironically, the concerns turned out to be partially accurate. Although payments were made to most students, there was a 24-hour delay, with disbursements only arriving on Sunday.
Despite most students eventually receiving their allowances, the group of 800 students is still awaiting their April 2025 payments.
NSFAS is actively collaborating with its financial services institution to resolve this issue and prevent any recurrence in the coming months,.
NSFAS reiterated that any claims about delays should be verified through their official platforms and not through unverified sources.
