The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has called on students to apply for funding before the 2025 application deadline. The scheme provides vital financial support to students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS bursaries cover tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
Key Dates for 2025 Applications
The application window for 2025 funding will close on Sunday, 15 November 2024. This deadline applies to all students planning to begin their studies in Semester 1 or Trimester 1 of 2025.
NSFAS warned that the 2025 NSFAS application period will not be extended.
Record Number of Applications
Applications for 2025 funding opened on 20 September 2024, attracting significant interest. By the latest count, NSFAS has received 738,117 bursary applications and 48,097 loan applications. Of these, 543,357 bursary applicants and 12,210 loan applicants have been provisionally approved for funding.
NSFAS stressed the need for prospective applicants to complete all steps in the application process before the deadline. Timely submission is crucial to securing financial assistance, and applicants are encouraged to mark their calendars and ensure their applications are fully completed by the cut-off date.
