Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has announced that South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grants will be increased in 2025. Sassa has now confirmed the exact grant payment increases, which will benefit millions of South Africans.

Which Sassa Grants Will Increase In 2025?

The following Sassa grants will see an increase in payments from April 2025:

  • Older Persons Pension Grant: Increased by R120 from R2 190 to R2 310. For those aged over 75 years, the grant will increase from R2 210 to R2 330.
  • War Veterans Grant: Increased by R120 from R2 190 to R2 310. For veterans aged over 75 years, the grant will increase from R2 210 to R2 330.
  • Disability Grant: Increased by R120 from R2 190 to R2 310.
  • Care Dependency Grant: Increased by R120 from R2 190 to R2 310.
  • Foster Care Grant: Increased by R70 from R1 180 to R1 250.
  • Child Support Grant: Increased by R30 from R530 to R560.
  • Child Support Grant Top-Up: Increased by R10 from R270 to R280. This adjustment means the total grant, including the top-up for double orphans, will increase from R800 to R840.

When Will The Sassa Grant Increases Take Effect?

The new Sassa grant amounts will take effect in April 2025. While it remains unclear if there will be another adjustment later in the year, it’s worth noting that smaller increases are sometimes applied in October to help combat inflation.
