The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will distribute more than 18 million permanent grants during the first week of October 2023. Grant payments made in October 2023 will also be the second time grant payments increase for the year.
Sassa distributes several permanent grants to vulnerable South Africans every month. These permanent grants include the Older Persons grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Child Support grant, Foster Care grant, Care Dependency Grant and the Grant-In-Aid.
All permanent grants distributed by Sassa will be increased by R10 in October 2023.
How Much Are Sassa Grant Payments Now?
The value of the Older Persons grant, Care Dependency grant, and Disability grant has grown to R2090 after being increased in October. The War Veterans grant has been increased to R2110.
The Foster Child grant is now R1130, and the Child Support Grant along with the Grant-in-Aid will stand at R510.
Which Grants Are Not Being Increased?
Child Support Grant Top-Up
The Child Support Top-Up grant is not being increased. While the Top-Up of the grant was introduced in 2022, the grant is not new. It simply builds upon the existing Child Support grant.
The grant was introduced to improve the lives of orphaned children living in South Africa. It sought to prevent children without parents from having to go through the foster care process due to caregivers not having the means to support them.
Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will not be increased and its value will remain at R350 in October 2023.
While the Department of Social Development (DSD) approached the National Treasury about the possibility of increasing the SRD grant, the request was not favourably considered due to fiscal constraints.
Grant Payment Dates For October 2023
October 2023 grant payments will be paid from Tuesday, 3 October 2023 starting with the older persons' grants. Here is the Sassa grant payment schedule for October:

SRD Grant Payment Dates For October 2023
SRD grant payments for October will follow the agency's standard payment schedule, occurring towards the end of every month. Grants will be paid from 25 October 2023 and final payments will be made on 31 October 2023.
It's important to note that SRD grants will take approximately 2-3 working days to reflect in the SRD grant beneficiaries’ bank account after the payment is processed by Sassa.
