Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, recently took to the podium to deliver the 2024 Budget Speech. Godongwana revealed the Sassa grant increases for 2024.
He said that to keep up with inflation and increase access, Sassa grants will be increased. These Sassa grant increases are now in effect, from 1 April.
Sassa Grant Increases For 2024
Sassa grants will be increased on 1 April and then again on 1 October. These increases will be as follows:
- Old age grant will have an increase of R90 in April and then R10 in October.
- Disability grant will have an increase of R90 in April and then R10 in October.
- War Veterans grant will have an increase of R90 in April and then R10 in October.
- Care Dependency grant will have an increase of R90 in April and then R10 in October.
- The Child Support Grant will only have one increase of R20 in April
- Foster Care grant will only have one increase of R50 in April.
- SRD grant will be increased by R20 on 1 April
How Much Sassa Grants Will Be In April, After First Increase
- Older Persons grant - R2,180
- Older Persons (75 years and older) - R2,200
- Disability grant - R2,180
- War Veterans grant - R2,200
- Child Support grant - R530
- Child Support grant (Top-up) - R530 + R250
- Care Dependency grant - R2,180
- Foster Care grant - R1,180
- SRD Grant - R370
In the expanded Budget 2024 review, the National Treasury explained that social grant expenditure, excluding the SRD grant, will rise from R217.1 billion in 2023/24 to R259.3 billion in 2026/27.
Sassa pays permanent grants to approximately 18 million South Africans and pays SRD grants to approximately 9 million people, every month.
