The Social Security Agency of South Africa (Sassa) has released the official grant payment schedule for December 2023. These dates refer to the permanent grants distributed by Sassa.
Sassa plays a crucial role in managing grants and allowances for individuals in South Africa who require financial assistance. They distributed several permanent grants including those designated for children, such as The Child Support Grant, as well as grants for pensioners and people with disabilities.
As is normally the case, Sassa grant payments will be made during the first week of the month. However, not all grants will be paid during the first week of December.
Beneficiaries of disability and children's grants will have to wait for the second week of December as Sassa does not pay grants on weekends. Sassa also does not pay grants on public holidays.
Here’s The December Grant Payment Schedule
- Older Persons Grant: 1 December 2023
- Disability Grant: 4 December 2023
- Children's Grants: 5 December 2023
Sassa has issued a reminder to beneficiaries that they are not required to withdraw cash on the first day of availability. They emphasise that once the funds are deposited into the account, they will remain accessible until required.
How Much Are December 2023 Sassa Grants?
- Older Persons Grant: R2,090
- Older Persons (75 years and older): R2,110
- Disability Grant: R2,090
- War Veterans Grant: R2,110
- Child Support Grant: R510

It's worth noting that Sassa disburses over 18 million grants monthly to vulnerable recipients. These grants play a vital role in enabling the most vulnerable members of society to acquire essential goods and access basic services regularly.
Where To Collect Grants In December
Permanent grant beneficiaries can have grants directly deposited into their bank accounts. This method allows beneficiaries access to their funds at any time after Sassa completes the payment.
Sassa grants are distributed through various retail outlets such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Usave, and Checkers.
Mobile cash pay points provide another avenue for grant beneficiaries, though with limited flexibility. Funds can only be collected during specific hours in the grant payment cycle.
The Post Office also pays social grants on designated payment dates. However, this grant payment option may not be available for long.
