The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) disburses over 19 million permanent grants every month. In addition to this, millions of adults also receive Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payments.
Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
While Sassa endeavours to pay grants on consecutive days, this will not be possible in February 2024. This is because Sassa does not pay grants on weekends. As February approaches, many grant beneficiaries are wondering when they will receive their money.
February 2024 Permanent Grant Payment Dates
- Older Persons Grant - 2 February 2024
- Disability Grants - 5 February 2024
- Children's Grants - 6 February 2024
SRD R350 Grant Payment Dates
SRD Grant payments for February will be made in the final week of the month. Payments will be made from 23 February 2024 to 29 February 2024
Sassa reminded grant beneficiaries that During the designated payment week, beneficiaries can check their Sassa status on the SRD website to determine the exact date when their Sassa grant payment will be deposited into their bank accounts.
The agency also reminds grant recipients that it typically takes approximately 2-3 working days for the funds to appear in their bank accounts after the payment has been processed.
Outstanding January 2024 Grant Payments
In January 2024, Sassa suspended the grant payments of more than 150,000 grant beneficiaries. The suspension of 150,000 social grants was attributed to inconsistencies in grant beneficiary details.
These discrepancies include mismatched ID numbers with bank records, inaccurate banking details, and alterations in grant payment methods. To prevent individuals from erroneously receiving grants, the agency took the step of suspending grant payments.
Sassa said if a beneficiary did not receive their January 2024 grant payment and is found to be eligible for a grant payment; they will be paid during the February payment run. It was confirmed that they will receive a double grant payment, their outstanding January 2024 grant payment and their February 2024 grant payment.
