The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides social grants to financially vulnerable individuals in South Africa. Starting in October 2024, these grants will see an increase.
Sassa distributes several permanent grants, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Annual Sassa Grant Increases
Each year, Sassa announces two grant increases as part of the budget, delivered by the Finance Minister. This year, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed that the 2024 Sassa increases will be implemented on 1 April and 1 October.
“We recognise the rising cost of living that affects nearly 19 million South Africans who depend on these grants,” said the Minister.
We have done as much as the budget allows to provide support.
