Millions have been approved for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant in April 2025. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) began processing SRD grant payments for the month.
Approved applicants will be paid between 25 April and 30 April 2025. Beneficiaries should complete a Sassa status check to confirm their exact payment date.
Clients are encouraged to view their status on the SRD websites for the exact date that payment will be reflected in their bank accounts.
Where to Collect SRD Grants in April 2025
If approved, you can receive the grant via direct deposit or collect it at a retail store. Authorised retailers include Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OK, and Spar.
How SRD Grant Applications Are Processed
When applying, your ID number, name, and surname are verified by the Department of Home Affairs. The ID is also checked against databases from SARS, the UIF, and NSFAS.
Sassa does not pay applicants already receiving support from NSFAS, UIF, or other government entities.
Each application undergoes a fraud risk check. Once verified, Sassa makes a decision. If your application is unfairly rejected, you can submit an appeal.
SRD Grant Extended Until 2026
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed the grant’s extension during the Annual Budget Speech. The SRD grant will now continue until March 2026, with R35.2 billion allocated.
The COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD), in its current form, will be extended by a year to end March 2026.
Beneficiaries will receive R370 for April. Funds will reflect in accounts 2 to 3 working days after processing.
